Cloud, Agunbiade, Owens Nab #A10WBB Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Saint Joseph’s Natasha Cloud and Duquesne’s Wumi Agunbiade have been named Atlantic 10 Co-Players of the Week, while La Salle’s Micahya Owens was named Rookie of the Week. The three student-athletes were honored for games played between Dec. 2 – Dec. 8.

Cloud helped SJU run its win streak to seven games with a pair of victories this week. The Broomall, Pa., native averaged 17.5 points, 10.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Hawks. On Wednesday, Cloud helped SJU win its first game at Temple since the 2002-03 season as she tallied a career-best 21 points and matched her career-high with 13 assists to go with six rebounds. She followed that up Saturday with a game-high eight assists to go with 14 points and seven rebounds against Villanova . Additionally, Cloud hit the game-sealing jumper with just over a minute to go in the 63-60 win against the Wildcats.

Agunbiade helped the Dukes to a 2-0 week, averaging 20 points and 11.5 rebounds. The Pickering, Ontario native posted a season-high 26 points, making 11 field goals and shooting .733 in a Duquesne victory over Providence.  Agunbiade followed that with 14 points and a season high 12 boards in victory over Saint Francis on Sunday.  She also had seven assists to go along with four blocks and three steals on the week.

A native of Willingboro, N.J., Owens averaged a team-best 17.5 in two games this week.  Owens led the  Explorers with 16 points against Penn and then added 19 points at William & Mary, shooting 6-for-9 overall and 4-for-6 from long range against W&M.  Owens added seven rebounds and a blocked shot in a win over   the Tribe. The freshman is leading the Explorers in scoring overall on the season, upping her average to 13.7 ppg.

Atlantic 10 Honor Roll
Fordham’s Erin Rooney continued her hot start, netting a game-high 22 points to lead the Rams in the convincing victory over Holy Cross ... George Washington’s Megan Nipe averaged a team-high 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games last week. She tallied 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists against Georgetown, then followed that with 23 points and nine boards against Towson. GW’s Ciara Washington averaged 11.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week. She posted her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and added a career-high five blocks and two assists at Georgetown … La Salle’s Leeza Burdgess had a career-high 20 points on 71.4% shooting (10-14) and pulled down seven rebounds in La Salle’s 73-59 win at William & Mary … Rhode Island sophomore guard Tayra Melendez scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots in a 57-42 win over NJIT. It was her third game this season with 20 points. For the week, Melendez averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game … Katie Healy of St. Bonaventure, who hails from the Buffalo area, shined on Wednesday night in her homecoming against Big 4 rival, Canisius. She recorded her second double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.  The 6-1 sophomore registered six blocks in the victory which was also a career-high and tied a school record for most blocks in a single game. Healy also tied her career-highs in assists (5) and field goals made (7) in the victory … Saint Louis rookie Sadie Stipanovich registered the first double-double of her career with 17 points (career high, tied game high) and 10 rebounds (game high, tied career high) at Northern Iowa …  VCU’s Robyn Parks scored 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line at UMBC. Her teammate Isis Thorpe led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, including 7-of-14 shooting from 3-point range, to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
