NOTABLE

Four A-10 players have crossed the 1,000-career-point plateau in the last few weeks. SLU’s Mike McCall, Jr. and VCU’s Rob Brandenberg both did it the Saturday before Christmas. VCU’s Treveon Graham followed suit a week later. Richmond’s Kendall Anthony hit 1,000 points against Florida.

La Salle’s Tyreek Duren is close to joining select company in A-10 history of guards with 1,400 points, 400 assists and 200 steals. He has the points and assists and needs one steal to be the only Explorer in the elusive club. Nine A-10 players have reached those totals.

Saint Louis coach Jim Crews is five wins away from his 400th career win. Once he crosses that mark he will be the third A-10 coach with 400+ career wins. Richmond coach Chris Mooney is just one win shy of his career 200th victory. He will be the sixth current A-10 coach to have 200+ wins when he reaches the milestone.

Two Atlantic 10 coaches are rapidly approaching 100 wins at their current institutions. UMass’ Derek Kellogg has 98 wins at this alma mater, just two wins from 100. Mark Schmidt, with 99 victories, is just one wins from reaching 100 as Bona’s bench boss.

The A-10 is deep when it comes to defense. The league has 11 teams that are holding opponents to under 70 points per game, including Saint Louis, who is holding opponents to a stingy 57.6 points per game.

Speaking of defense, don’t try to shoot it from the outside against the A-10. Four teams (SLU, UMass, Richmond, Mason) rank in the top 25 nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense.

Seven of the 13 A-10 teams are scoring more than 75 points per game. UMass leads the pack , tallying 78.7 points per game. Atlantic 10 teams have broken 90 points 18 times this season and gone over the century mark three times.
