PHILADELPHIA - Caitlin Rimgaila, who has successful experience as a Division I player and coach at the college, high school and Junior Olympic levels, has been named the head women's volleyball coach at La Salle University, Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan announced today.
"Caitlin has an outstanding background as a high-level player and coach at multiple levels," Brennan said. "She has won at every stop during her coaching career. We think she will be a great ambassador to lead our volleyball student-athletes on and off the court."
"I am very excited about the opportunity to lead the volleyball program at La Salle," Rimgaila said. "I want to thank Dr. Tom Brennan and the entire search committee for granting me the ability to work with such a dedicated group of female student-athletes.  Growing up in Philadelphia, I am familiar with the tradition of La Salle Athletics and grateful to be a part of the volleyball program's future while coaching in my hometown."
Rimgaila comes to La Salle from Lehigh where she spent one season as the top assistant coach, helping the Mountain Hawks to a 20-9 record and 11-5 mark in the Patriot League. The 11 wins tied a school record for Patriot League victories and the 20 wins were the most by the program since 2002 and the sixth most in school history.
Prior to Lehigh, she spent one season as an assistant at Bucknell.
Before entering the college circuit, Rimgaila was the head coach of Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford, Pa. She was the first coach in program history and led the team to two top 10 rankings in the state and a pair of PIAA District I runner-up finishes.
She also has experience as the head coach for the Philadelphia Volleyball Academy, the Synergy Volleyball Club and an assistant at SUNY FIT.
As a player, Rimgaila was the Big East Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at St. John's in 2006 after captaining the Red Storm to a 31-5 overall record and undefeated 14-0 mark as the Big East Champions. St. John's was ranked as high as #24 in the national polls and advanced to the NCAA Second Round that season.
Rimgaila, who graduated in three years with a 3.9 GPA in communication science, was a Second Team All-Big East and First Team Academic All-District selection in 2006. She also was a three-time Academic All-Big East pick.
A native of Trooper, Pa., Rimgaila was an all-state selection at Villa Maria Academy. She will receive a master's in educational leadership and higher education administration from Lehigh in May.
Rimgaila is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and worked four years in the marketing/communications field.
What they are saying about Caitlin:
"Caitlin's years at Lehigh were mutually beneficial.  She contributed significantly to our front line play and to our recruiting success.  In return, Caitlin was able to learn more volleyball from our very knowledgeable head coach Bob Bertucci, and insights about organizing and leading a team from our other coaches and our leadership program.  Additionally, she is completing a master's degree in educational leadership so she will remain a part of our Lehigh family as an alumna.  She has worked hard to prepare for a head coaching opportunity and is excited to lead the program at La Salle and to work for Dr. Tom Brennan.  We are happy for her, thank her for her dedication to Lehigh Volleyball and wish her much success." – Lehigh Athletic Director Joe Sterrett
"I am exceptionally excited for Caitlin and I know she is going to be a tremendous head coach. It's bittersweet for Lehigh because she is so good at what she does, but La Salle is tremendously lucky to get someone of her caliber. She has excelled throughout her career and is more than ready to take the next step at La Salle." – Lehigh Head Volleyball Coach Bob Bertucci
"I couldn't be happier or prouder for Caitlin Rimgaila on this opportunity to become a head coach.   She was the consummate student-athlete and captain while at St. John's. Caitlin embodies all the characteristics one would look for in a coach and mentor: leadership, dedication, integrity, perseverance, hard work and strong communication skills to name a few.  She is passionate about volleyball and academics and will build a competitive program that fits La Salle's scholar-athlete model. We at St. John's volleyball are proud to call her "one of our own." – St. John's Head Volleyball Coach Joanne Persico
