Ball, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., captured his first career collegiate win last week at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. He fired a season-best 66 in the tournament’s final round. He trailed by a stroke heading to the 16th tee, but birdied No. 16 and save par on 17 to take a 1-stroke lead. Ball finished at four-under, shooting a 212 (73-73-66). His performance helped the Rams place fourth of 17 teams with an 895.
McPherson, a freshman from Morgantown, W.Va., shot a 237 (79-81-77) to tie for 15th at the Carlton Oaks Western Illinois Invitational. He was 156th out of 52 players, helping the Bonnies Place fifth in the three-round, two-day tournament at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in San Diego, which played at 7,117 yards.
