Newport News, Va. – Dayton’s AJ Ryan has been named the Atlantic 10  Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while La Salle’s Shawn O’Neill and Rhode Island’s Lou Distasio shared Pitcher of the Week honors.  Fordham’s Mark Donadio was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.

Ryan led the Flyers to a 3-1 record last week, including a series victory over UMass over the weekend by batting .563 with nine hits, three doubles, and seven RBI. Those were all team-highs and went with Ryan’s .938 slugging percentage and .588 on-base percentage. Defensively, the Illinois native also led the team with 33 putouts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Ryan had at least two hits in each game he played last week, pushing his hitting streak to six straight games. On Friday, Ryan had a 2-for-3 outing with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored. He went 2-for-4 on Saturday and 2-for-4 on Sunday, including three RBI, a run scored, a home run, and a walk. Ryan finished off the week with a 3-for-5 game, two RBI and a double.

O’Neill earned two wins and a save in his three appearances last week. The southpaw threw seven innings of two-run ball in Sunday’s win over Richmond. He retired the side in the ninth in Friday’s game to earn the save over the Spiders. O’Neill also picked up a win vs. Lehigh on Tuesday, pitching a scoreless ninth before the Explorers enjoyed a walk-off win

Distasio tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in the rubber game against Fordham on Sunday. The right-hander recorded six 1-2-3 innings and took a no-hitter into the seventh before allowing Fordham its lone hit of the day – a single through the left side – with two away.  Distasio walked the bases full in the fourth inning, but responded with back-to-back strikeouts to get URI out of the jam.

Donadio hit .312 for the week (5-16) with a home run and five RBI for the Rams. Donadio hit his first career home run on Tuesday against Albany and registered at least one hit and one RBI in four of his five games on the week. In an A-10 series with Rhode Island, Donadio hit .400 with two RBI and a run scored.
