Spisak, Ruffin, Porter, Sanders & Folsom Earn A-10 Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne’s Jim Spisak and VCU’s Brandon Ruffin have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Co-Performers of the Week for meets held April 7–13, the league announced Monday. VCU’s Kiara Porter was named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Performer of the Week. Also honored were La Salle’s Chris Sanders, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Rhode Island’s Lindsay Folsom, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.
Spisak, a senior from Johnstown, Pa., broke the Duquesne school record in 10,000 meters with a time of 29:02.09 en route to a first-place finish at this past weekend’s Bison Outdoor Classic. Spisak’s time also set a new Bucknell Facility record.
Ruffin, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., finished first in the Shot Put at this past weekend’s Mason Spring Invitational with a throw of 57’ 8 ½” (17.59m). Ruffin’s performance in the Shot Put broke a school record that had been standing for 19 years and currently ranks as the 31st best throw in the East Region. He also finished sixth in Discus with a mark of 151’ 9.
Porter, a junior from Yorktown, Va., broke the VCU school record in the 100 meters at the Mason Spring Invitational with a time of 11.38. Her performance in the 100 meters currently ranks 13th in the nation. Porter also now holds every VCU sprint record in both Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field.
Sanders posted a career-best time of 1:51.06 in the 800 meters at the Mason Spring Invitational, coming in 10th in the 73-runner field. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., currently holds the fastest 800 meter time in the A-10 this season.
Folsom, a freshman from Augusta, Maine, finished first in the Pole Vault at the Brown Invitational with a mark of 10’ 11.75” (3.35 m). Her mark is the sixth best Rhode Island score all-time in the Pole Vault.
