Saint Joseph's Tops La Salle 7-4 in A-10 Softball Championship

Bronx, N.Y – Third-seeded Saint Joseph’s used a four run fifth inning en route to a 7-4 victory over sixth-seeded La Salle in the first day of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Championship.

The win sends SJU (21-18) to a matchup with second-seeded Saint Louis Thursday at 2:30 p.m.  La Salle falls to 18-23 and the Explorers will have to face Dayton in an elimination game on Wednesday.

With Saint Joseph’s leading 1-0, La Salle got on the board in the third inning when Megan Hodgson homered  to right field which plated Linnette Siedler to give La Salle a 2-1 advantage.

La Salle tacked on a pair of runs and held a 4-2 lead after four and a half innings.

Saint Joseph’s rallied in the home-half of the fifth when it strung together three hits and took advantage of a La Salle error to score three runs   Brandi Harkness, Nicole Palase and Ashley Alden all recorded RBIs in the decisive inning.

Anna Lauterbach tossed 4.2 innings in relief to pick up the win and improve to 4-2 on the season.  Lauterbach allowed six hits and two runs.

Alicia Aughton (11-11) was saddled with the loss after going 4.1 innings and surrendering six runs, just three of which were earned.
