NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— For the fifth consecutive season, the La Salle Explorers have been predicted to take home the Atlantic 10 Cross Country title in voting conducted by the league’s 14 head coaches, the A-10 announced Monday.
Winners of two of the last three conference titles, the Explorers are led by new head coach Tom Peterson. Peterson was elevated to head coach in July after serving the previous three years as a La Salle assistant coach. Leading the way for this year’s squad are seniors Nico Greco and Ian Barnhill, who finished 1st and 12th respectively at last year’s championship.
Finishing second to La Salle in the poll was 2013 championship runner up, Saint Joseph’s. The Hawks return fifth place individual finisher Logan Mohn and A-10 Rookie of the Year John Mascioli as they search for their first conference title since 2009. The Hawks have finished second in back-to-back seasons.
Duquesne, Massachusetts and George Mason rounded out the top five, and were followed by Saint Louis and Fordham. A-10 newcomer Davidson was selected to finish 8th by the coaches and was followed by Dayton, Richmond, VCU, George Washington, Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure.
The 2014 Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country Championship will be hosted by Duquesne University at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. on November 1.
