AMHERST, Mass. - With the start of the 2017 season just weeks away, Inside Lacrosse released its preseason All-America teams as part of its annual Face-Off Yearbook. UMass women's lacrosse senior midfielder Hannah Murphy was tabbed a Second-Team All-American after a sensational 2016 campaign where she helped the Minutewomen reach the NCAA Elite Eight.

The Duxbury, Mass., native is one of the top draw control specialists in the country. She was named the Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive year as a junior in 2016. Overall, she ranked third nationally with 152 draws last year which set a single-season record for the program and the Atlantic 10. She initially set the school record with 113 as a sophomore in 2015.

Additionally, she holds the career record with 310 draws which ranks Murphy 12th all-time in the history of the NCAA. Offensively, she ranked third on the team last year in points with 50 on 36 goals and 14 assists. She also ranked second on the team in groundballs with 44.

This past June, she and fellow senior Callie Santos along with a trio of alumnae were part of the 2016-17 United States National Team Tryout Pool.

UMass will begin the season on Feb. 7 at Garber Field against Boston College. The opening draw is set for 3:30 p.m. As part of the preseason rankings, the Minutewomen enter the match ranked No. 13, while the Eagles will begin the season ranked No. 17 according to the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook preseason top-20 rankings. UMass has won the last eight consecutive Atlantic 10 titles and tied the program record for victories last season with a 20-2 overall record.
