NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond’s Jason Skipper and George Washington’s Angela Ryck were named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Also honored for their performances were Dayton’s Ethan Louis, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Duquesne’s Megan Baritot, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. Awards were based off performances from September 6-8.
Skipper, a redshirt senior from Pittsford, N.Y., led the way for Richmond at this past weekend’s Spider Alumni Open with a second-place overall finish and a time of 15:05.1 in the 5,000 meters. In a field that contained three other A-10 conference schools, the Spiders recorded 50 points en route to a second-place team finish.
Ryck finished first overall out of 53 runners to lead George Washington to a second-place team finish at this past weekend’s Catholic Invitational. The win marked the first in the collegiate career for Ryck, who transferred to George Washington following a four-year career at Notre Dame. The Fairport, N.Y., native finished the 6,000 meter course six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Louis turned in a time of 15:36 and a 10th place finish in the 5,000 meters at this past weekend’s Queen City Invitational hosted by Xavier. The Erie, Pa., native was Dayton’s top freshman finisher and had the second fastest time for a freshman in the race.
