AP Top 25 Poll (Nov. 18, 2013)

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's basketball team is gaining national recognition following Friday night's upset of No. 10/11 California, as the Colonials are receiving votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday.

GW checked in at 21st on three voters' ballots and 25th on a fourth to earn 16 points, the fifth-most among teams not in the Top 25. It marks the first time the Colonials have received votes in the national rankings since garnering seven in the second week of the 2008-09 campaign. GW last cracked the Top 25 in the final poll of the 2007-08 season, when it was ranked 20th following its second straight Sweet 16 appearance.

The only undefeated team remaining in the Atlantic 10, GW (2-0) is one of two A-10 teams to receive votes in the poll, joining Dayton (2-2), which garnered 37 points.

The Colonials upset then-No. 10/11 California, 75-72, on Friday evening, their first win over a ranked opponent since defeating the No. 10/8 Golden Bears in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. GW's offense, behind graduate students Megan Nipe (25.5 ppg) and Danni Jackson (13.0 ppg) is averaging 88.0 points per game.

With the GW men's program receiving a vote in the men's AP Top 25, both Colonials' basketball programs appear in the poll for the first time since the 2006-07 final rankings, when the women finished the season at No. 14 and the men earned three votes after a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

GW takes on its second straight top-10 opponent on Tuesday when it visits No. 8 Maryland at 7 p.m.
