PHILADELPHIA – Adnan Gabeljic, who just concluded a four-year playing career at Saint Louis University, was selected by Sporting Kansas City in the second round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Thursday.
Gabeljic recorded 35 points (14G, 7A) during his Billiken career. His best season came as a junior in 2012 when he accumulated 19 points on seven goals and five assists. A mechanical engineering major who is expected to graduate with honors in May, Gabeljic earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Academic team and was a two-time Academic All-District selection.
“It was exciting for everyone associated with our program to see Adnan get selected,” SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. “Adnan deserves this. He has been a tremendous student-athlete during his time at SLU and is a great role model for our younger players.”
Gabeljic helped lead the Billikens back to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 after helping SLU capture the A-10 Championship. This season, the Billikens posted a 14-5-2 mark and won the A-10 regular-season title.
