A-10 Announces Weekly Tennis Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne’s Rich Robbie and Dayton’s Andy Druffel were named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Tennis Performer and Rookie Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Also honored were Carly Peck of Dayton and George Washington’s Taylor Nederlander, who earned Performer and Rookie Performer honors, respectively.MEN’S PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Robbie went a perfect 4-0 last week as Duquesne took down Dayton and Northern Kentucky. Against the Flyers, the junior paired with Harry Walshe for an 8-1 No. 3 doubles victory against Andy Druffel and Colin Bernier before earning a 7-5, 6-2 win at the top singles spot against UD’s Aidan Koross. The Harwich Port, Mass., native then posted two more wins, defeating NKU’s Jody Maginley and Balin Zsidai 8-3, and Mate Virag, 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 singles.WOMEN’S PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

In their lone match last week, Peck picked up two wins in No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles against Duquesne. In doubles play, the sophomore and Katie Shepherd won 8-4 over Chandler Consery and Sarah Shashura. Druffel earned his second Rookie of the Week nod after posting a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles last week over Duquesne. The freshman from Nashville, Tenn. defeated Max Rubin, 7-5, 6-4 for his fifth singles victory in six matches.WOMEN’S ROOKIE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Nederlander posted wins in both singles and doubles last week as the Colonials defeated Duquesne, 5-2. At No. 1 doubles, the rookie paired with senior Isabella Escobar for an 8-6 win against Judy Li and Alexa Miller. She then defeated Duke’s No. 3 Zuzanna Stelmaszak, 7-6 (1), 6-1.
