Massachusetts Earns Top Seed in 2014 A-10 Women's Lacrosse Tournament
Newport News, Va. – Five time defending champion Massachusetts will be the top-seed in the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Championship set to begin Friday at Robins Stadium on the campus of the University of Richmond.
UMass posted a 7-0 record in regular season league play and are in the midst of a regular-season conference win streak of 28 consecutive games which is the fifth-longest such streak in NCAA history. Additionally, UMass has now won 36 consecutive games against Atlantic 10 rivals. The Minutewomen are ranked No. 11 in the nation and are 16-1 overall.
Richmond, La Salle and Duquesne all completed the regular season with identical 5-2 A-10 records, initiating the league’s multi-team tiebreaking procedures. The host Spiders earned the second-seed by virtue of a three-way tie-breaker based on the cumulative goal differential for games between the three teams. To break the tie for third place, the head-to-head tiebreaker was used and La Salle was then awarded the third-seed based on its regular season win over the Dukes.
Richmond and La Salle will square off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the first semifinal, while UMass and Duquesne will play at 3:30 p.m., in a rematch of the 2013 final. The Championship game will take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with the winner receiving the A-10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Admission to the Championship is as follows. A single day pass for adults is six dollars, while a two-day pass is 10 dollars. Kids 16 years old and under are four dollars, while groups of eight or more can purchase tickets for three dollars each, but must do so in advance. Students from Atlantic 10 member schools are free with their school id.
All three games will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Network which can be accessed by logging on to Atlantic10.com.
