MASON, Ohio—VCU won its second straight Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship, beating No. 2 Saint Louis 4-0 Sunday morning at Lindner Family Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Rams won at No. 1 and 2 doubles and No. 3, 4 and 5 singles to clinch the title and the A-10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It’s the 11th time in the last 13 years a team from Richmond, Va. Has won the A-10 women’s tennis title. It also marked the second appearance in the A-10 Championship match by Saint Louis, who also appeared in the 2011 final.
VCU will learn its NCAA matchup in the 64-team field Tuesday, April 29 at 5:30 pm on the NCAA Selection Show, which can be viewed on NCAA.com.
The doubles team of Olga Barscheuskaya and Daria Yakauleva won first at No. 1 doubles, beating Stephanie Hollis and Brooke Urzendowski, 8-1. Salome Kvitashvili and Yukako Noi followed with an 8-2 win at No. 2 singles over Aspen Cervin and Madison Cook to clinch the doubles point.
Barscheuskaya opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Maria Toro Moreno. Ludivine Burguiere defeated Cook, 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles to put VCU up 3-0. Kvitashvili finished the VCU victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Urzendowski at No. 4 singles.
