NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced the 2014 Division I Softball All-Star teams today, as two A-10 Student Athletes, Fordham’s Elise Fortier (First Team/Shortstop and Player of the Year) and George Mason’s Brooke Blankenship (First team/Third Baseman) were named to the squad for the 2014 season. The teams and major award winners were selected based on a vote of ECAC Division I coaches.

Fortier led the Rams in nearly every statistical offensive category this season, helping Fordham to an overall record of 36-20 and a berth in the NCAA tournament. She batted .389 with 20 home runs, a school-record 73 RBI and a .854 slugging percentage. Fortier collected 33 extra-base hits, registered a .495 on-base percentage and was a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts. At the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, she belted her 20th home run of the season, and 46th of her career, to set a new program record in just three seasons. Fortier is the only player in the nation to hit 20 home runs in each of the past two seasons. She was also named the ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Player of the Week on April 29, selected to the NCAA Tallahassee All-Regional Team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region and the Atlantic-10 Conference Player of the Year.

Fortier is just the second player in Fordham history to receive this award, as Jocelyn Dearborn was named the ECAC Player of the Year as a senior in 2011.

Blankenship, a junior from Glen Allen, Va., finished the season with a .394 batting average (ranking second in the A-10), and a team-best seven home runs, 49 RBI and 12 steals.  The third basemen led the Patriots with a .701 slugging percentage and also set a new record for on-base percentage, ending the season with a team-leading .479 percentage. Blankenship was also selected as the A-10 player of the Week once this season. She was also named NFCA Second Team Mid-Atlantic Region and to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.
