Krista Carlson has been named head coach of the St. Bonaventure women's swimming team, Director of Athletics Steve Watson announced. A 2009 St. Bonaventure graduate, Carlson was the Bonnies' team captain her senior season.

She returns to her alma mater after spending the past three years as assistant men's and women's swimming coach at Chicago University. Carlson helped both Chicago programs to top 10 finishes in the NCAA Division III Championship meets each of the past two seasons. She also was a part of the University Athletic Association's men's swimming coaching staff of the year both in 2013 and 2014 and the women's swimming coaching staff of the year in 2013. Carlson worked with all facets of the Chicago program including recruiting, practices and team travel.

Among the outstanding swimmers Carlson helped to mentor at Chicago was Abby Erdmann, who this past season as a freshman won the Div. III national championship in the 200-yard butterfly.

Carlson also was the assistant aquatics director of the Chicago Natatorium and a U.S. Master's swim coach there.

From 2009-2011, Carlson was an assistant coach and the aquatics director at Radford University in Virginia.

Carlson holds a bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure in physical education. At St. Bonaventure, she was the recipient of the Physical Education Department's Al Nothern Award for student teaching and the swimming program's Jennifer Savickas Award for dedication and commitment. Carlson earned a master's degree in sports administration from Canisius College in 2012.

Carlson is a native of Rome, N.Y., and a graduate of Rome Free Academy. She succeeds Seth Johnson, who recently was named Director of Athletics Marketing and Promotions at St. Bonaventure after five years as head coach.
