NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—La Salle’s Francis Ferruzzi and Manuel De Backer of Saint Louis were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Cross Country Co-Performers of the Week while Dayton’s Taylor Vernot was named the Women’s Performer of the Week. Also honored were Saint Joseph’s Joshua Clark and Saint Louis’ Aaron Dugan, who were named the Men’s Co-Rookies of the Week, along with VCU’s Judith White, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were based off performances from meets held Oct. 10-16.
Ferruzzi, a senior Willow Grove, Pa., finished third in a field of 225 runners at the Princeton Invitational, completing the 8K course in 24:22.4 to lead the Explorers to fifth place team finish.
De Backer, a sophomore from Essen, Belgium, finished second overall and led the Billikens to the team title at the Bradley Pink Classic, finishing the 8K race in 24:23.5.
Vernot, a sophomore from Wauseon, recorded a new personal best time of 21:00.7 (6K) to lead the Flyers’ to a seventh-place team finish at the Bradley Pink Classic.
Clark, a freshman from Blackwood, N.J., finished 64th overall at the Princeton Invitational with a time of 25:13.0 (8K).
Dugan, a freshman from Festus, Mo., finished 38th overall with a time of 25:16.7 (8K) at the Bradley Pink Classic.
White, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., finished first overall at the Christopher Newport University Invitational on Saturday with a time of 22:24 (6K) to lead the Rams to a first-place team finish.
