Gibbs Named Menís Basketball Player of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson senior Jack Gibbs was named Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week while Massachusetts freshman DeJon Jarreau was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Come Ready Nutrition, are for games played Nov. 14-21.
Gibbs, in his first games back from injury, averaged 23.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.67 steals per game, while leading the Wildcats to a 2-1 record in the Tire Pros Invitational in Orlando, Fla. In addition to helping Davidson to wins over Missouri and Arizona State, Gibbs tied the three-game tournament record for points scored with 71. After an 18-point performance against Clemson, the point guard from Westerville, Ohio, scored 25 points against Mizzou and concluded the week with a 28 point, six rebound and four assist performance against the Sun Devils. Gibbs also made 81.3 percent of his free throws, including a 16-for-21 effort Sunday against Arizona State. He was named to the Tire Pros Invitational All-Tournament team.
Jarreau averaged 14.7 points, 5.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game during wins over Temple and Holy Cross and a loss at Ole Miss. The guard from New Orleans had a career day at Ole Miss with 25 points, the most by an A-10 freshman this season, along with eight boards and six assists. Jarreau was pivotal to the team's win over Temple, scoring a team-best 16 points, including nine in the second half. He scored five of his 16 points during the last 34 seconds of the game when the Minutemen turned a two-point deficit into a three-point win. Jarreau hit a right-side 3-pointer to give the Minutemen the lead before he scored a fast break layup with seven seconds to seal the win.

Scoochie Smith averaged 18 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals for Dayton, including scoring 20 in a win over Alabama … Duquesne freshman Isiaha Mike had back-to-back double-figure scoring games, with 16 in a win over Saint Francis (Pa.) and 17 against Canisius … Joseph Chartouny filled a box score in four wins for Fordham, averaging 16 points, 3.8 rebounds, seven assists and 4.3 steals per game … UMass’ Donte Clark had three games of double-figure scoring, including an 18-point, seven rebound performance to lead the Minutemen to a road win against Holy Cross … Hassan Martin averaged 14.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and an astounding 4.3 blocks to lead Rhode Island to three wins, including a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double against Marist … Richmond’s T.J. Cline scored 18 points in each game last week, adding 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists with a perfect 8-for-8 performance at the line in a win over Robert Morris … UR freshman De’Monte Buckingham had nine points, seven rebounds and three steals in the Robert Morris win … Matt Mobley scored 28 points on six made 3-pointers to spark a Bonaventure rally that fell just short of beating Florida … Saint Joseph’s Shavar Newkirk had back-to-back 20-point games, averaged 19.3 points and 3.7 assists in a 2-1 week for the Hawks … Saint Louis’ Reggie Agbecko had a pair of 18-point games for the Billikens, including an 18-point, 14-rebound, three block performance in a win over Southern Utah … SLU redshirt freshman Elliott Welmer was as consistent as Agbecko, scoring back-to-back 15 points games in a pair of Saint Louis victories.
