Johnson of La Salle, Bona’s Adams Named A-10 Co-Players of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – La Salle junior B.J. Johnson and St. Bonaventure junior Jaylen Adams have been named Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week. Duquesne freshman Mike Lewis II was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Come Ready Nutrition, are for games played Nov. 28 – Dec. 4.
Johnson averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over two games as La Salle earned victories over Lehigh and Bucknell. The junior transfer poured in 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting against the Mountain Hawks, adding two assists without turning the ball over in the 89-81 win. Three days later, Johnson continued his hot shooting with another 8-for-14 performance en route to 22 points in the 83-73 triumph. Against the Bison, the 6-7 forward from Philadelphia, added nine boards, a pair of blocked shots and three steals in 29 minutes.
In a pair of wins for St. Bona, Adams averaged 28 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The guard from Baltimore was 18-for-33 (.545) from the field, 8-of-16 (.500) from 3-point range and 12-for-14 (.857) at the free throw line. He scored 27 points to go with five assists and four rebounds against Siena and a season-best 29 points on 9-of-15 shooting (5-for-9 from 3-point range) and handed out eight assists with four rebounds and four steals versus Buffalo.
Lewis claimed his third Rookie of the Week award by averaging 13.0 points per game in Duquesne's two games last week. He scored 11 points in 27 minutes against UMBC and followed that with 15 points in the Dukes' win over Pitt. The guard from St. Louis, Mo., scored 10 of his 15 in the second half to help the Dukes to their first win over the Panthers since 2000. Lewis hit a layup followed by three free throws to increase Duquesne's lead from two to seven points with 2:01 left. He also went 4-of-4 from the line for the week.

Jack Gibbs averaged 28 points in a split week for Davidson, including a 33-point performance with eight threes against Mercer … Charles Cooke led Dayton to a win in the Flyers’ only game this week, scoring 20 points with six rebounds in a victory over Winthrop … Emile Blackman sparked Duquesne to its first win over Pitt in 16 years with a 21-point, six-rebound effort in the annual City Game … George Mason’s Marquise Moore led the Patriots with a 21-point, 12 rebounds double-double against Mercer and he had 13 rebounds at Northern Iowa, helping extend the Mason winning streak to five games … Mason freshman Ian Boyd score 11 points and had eight rebounds in the Mercer win, shooting 4-of-5 from the field … George Washington’s Collin Smith swished the game-winning 3-pointer to lift the Colonials over South Florida, part of a 22-point, eight-rebound game from the freshman … Hassan Martin averaged 15 points, 11.5 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in Rhode Island’s two games last week, including tallying his third double-double of year at Providence (14 points and a career-high tying 17 rebounds) … T.J Cline averaged 21.5 points for the Spiders in a pair of games last week … UR freshman Nick Sherod scored a career-high 13 points on three made triples against Wake Forest … St. Bonaventure freshman Josh Ayeni scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Bonnies’ win over Buffalo … VCU freshman Samir Doughty had 11 points and six rebounds in a win over Princeton and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line during the week.
