NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – La Salle’s Justin Guerre was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week while Duquesne’s Shannon Taub was named the Women’s Performer of the Week. Also honored was Fordham’s Richard Webber, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week and La Salle’s Desirae Osley who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, the first of the season, were based off performances from the opening weekend.
Guerre opened his junior year campaign at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, hosted by Villanova on Saturday. Guerre won both the 60m dash and the 300m event. The runner from Valley Street, N.Y., topped the field of 30 runners in the 300m with a 35.21 time, which additionally broke La Salle's program record. He sprinted a time of 6.89 to come out on top in the 60m dash over 16 other competitors.
Taub, at the YSU Icebreaker, set indoor school record in the high jump, clearing 5-7.75, finishing 1st of 23. The native from Philadelphia, Pa., finished 10th of 33 in the long jump with an indoor personally record of 16-10.75. She also placed 7th of 21 in the triple jump with a distanced of 35-57.75.
Webber, a runner from Morristown, N.J., won both the men's 60 meter dash and men's 200 meter dash with times of 7.02 and 23.16 respectively at the Fordham Season Opener on Friday December 2.
Osley made a huge debut this weekend in the 300m sprint, running a 41.65 to place fifth and shattering a school record (previously 41.99) in the process. The Kendall Park, N.J. native was one of two Explorers to break the record this weekend, but the only freshman to have such a noteworthy performance in her first appearance in an Explorers uniform.
