NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond senior T.J. Cline has been named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Rhode Island freshman Jeff Dowtin and Charlie Brown from Saint Joseph’s were selected as the league’s Co-Rookies of the Week. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Come Ready Nutrition, are for games played Dec. 26 – Jan. 1.

Cline was Mr. Everything for Richmond as the Spiders knocked off Davidson in the Atlantic 10 opener on the road. Cline scored 19 points, had 10 rebounds and eight assists with just two turnovers. He also had a steal in the final minute that helped secure the victory. The center from Planot, Texas was just two assists shy of recording Richmond’s first-ever triple-double.

Dowtin scored a career-high 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench for Rhode Island in a 90-56 win at Saint Louis. The guard from Upper Marlboro, Md., was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor (2-of-2 from 3-point range), while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out an assist. It marked the second consecutive game in which Dowtin improved in scoring and tallied a career-high.

Brown scored 13 points in the Hawks' come-from-behind win over George Washington in the A-10 opener. He shot 6-for-9 from the field, including a 3-pointer with 2:25 to play that gave Saint Joseph’s the lead for good. The forward from Philadelphia also had four rebounds, two assists and did not commit a turnover in the victory.
