NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Rhode Island junior Jared Terrell and St. Bonaventure junior Matt Mobley were selected as the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week while Saint Louis freshman Jalen Johnson was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Come Ready Nutrition, are for games played Feb. 20-26.
Terrell was the key to the Rams' 2-0 week, downing a pair of top 100 RPI teams. He averaged 22 points, six rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the floor. A guard from Weymouth, Mass., he tied his season-high with 24 points in a win at La Salle where he was 11-of-16 (.688) from the floor, including 9-of-10 (.900) from inside the arc. His best all-around performance of the week came against VCU, where he was one of two Rams to tally a double-double in a win over first-place VCU. Terrell connected on 3-of-6 (.500) from the outside - including two 3-pointers during a key second half stretch - and 9-of-13 (.692) from the charity stripe. He added a career-best 10 rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes of play.
Mobley led the Bonnies to a 2-0 week, averaging 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and two assists in wins at St. Joseph’s and at home against Duquesne. A guard from Worcester, Mass., scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in win on Hawk Hill, where 20 of his points came in the first half. It was his fourth double-double of the season. He then scored 20 points in the win over the Dukes, with 17 in the second half as the Bonnies overcame a three-point halftime deficit. This is Mobley’s second A-10 Player of the Week honor this year.
Johnson tied his career high with 17 points against both VCU and Saint Joseph's and shot 63.2 percent for the week from the field, 55.6 percent from 3-point range and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line.
