NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Davidson's Annie Brockett and Rose Woolson were named Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Also honored was La Salle's Mikki Raymond, who earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards are for games played Feb. 20-26.
Brockett had a career week in leading Davidson to a 2-0 week in games at home against Siena and William & Mary. The senior from Shaker Heights, Ohio, had 10 goals and an assist for 11 points, while going 3-for-3 on free-position shots and adding a caused turnover. Her week included a career-high six goals and seven points in the win againt Siena as she sparked an 8-0 rally with the first goal and added three during the spurt. She then followed with a four-goal outing against W&M, connecting twice on free-position attempts. Brockett tied the game up at 9-9 with a goal at the 2:24 mark in the second half before the 'Cats eventually scored the gamewinner a minute later. Brockett has 12 goals on the season, having scored multiple goals in all three of Davidson's games
Woolson picked up two wins in goal, finishing the week with a 8.00 goals against average, 19 saves, eight groundballs and one caused turnover. The Baltimore, Md., native stopped 11 shots in a 14-7 win against Siena while hauling in career-high tying six groundballs. The junior came up with eight saves in leading Davidson to a 10-9 win vs. William & Mary, adding two more groundballs.
Raymond made a big debut in the opening week of play for the Explorers, posting a pair of goals per game in a win over Manhattan and a loss to Sacred Heart. The freshman midfielder from Abington, Pa., posted four goals and two assists this week for 10 points, while grabbing two ground balls and causing two turnovers. Raymond also won two draw controls each game this week for a total of four on the season.
