Dietz Named Coach of the Year, 21 Selected as All-Conference

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. —University of Massachusetts' Jim Deitz was named the 2017 Atlantic 10 Rowing Coach of the Year, while 21 student-athletes were chosen as All-Conference the league announced Saturday following the 2017 A-10 Rowing Championship, held at the Cooper River.

Dietz won the annual award for the 10th time in his career, after leading the Minutewomen to their 16th Atlantic 10 title. UMass won the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 events to secure the championship.

The Minutewomen also had four student-athletes named All-Conference, with three of those earning first team honors. Rhode Island also had four rowers earn all-league honors, with George Washington and Fordham each placed three on the two teams.

The All-Conference First Team consisted of 11 student-athletes, while the All-Conference Second Team had 10 rowers. Both All-Conference teams were nominated by the nine A-10 head coaches and selected based on team finish in the championship. The league's annual All-Academic Team, which includes championship performance as well as classroom acumen, will be announced at a later date.
