LOS ANGELES -- GW golfer Logan Lowe has advanced to the Round of 64 in the U.S. Amateur after finishing third in a field of 320 in the preliminary rounds Monday-Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Lowe shot 4-under par in the 36-hole stroke play qualifying round, firing a 1-under 69 on Monday at Riviera Country Club before a nearly flawless round on Tuesday at Bel-Air Country Club that produced a 3-under 67. He earned the No. 3 seed in the Match Play portion of the championship, which gets underway Wednesday. Lowe is set to tee off at 4:40 p.m. ET with FS1 providing live television coverage from 5-8 p.m.

A rising junior at GW, Lowe was one of just 18 players among the 320 in the field to shoot under par, with his 4-under total outdone only by Hayden Wood (-9) and Norman Xiong (-6). On Monday, he mixed five birdies with four bogeys to shoot 69, gaining momentum at the end of his round by birdieing two of his final three holes.

At Bel-Air on Tuesday, Lowe began his day on the par-3 10th hole and made bogey, but produced a flawless scorecard thereafter. The Grass Valley, California native made birdie on his third and fifth holes of the round to make the turn at 1-under, and turned in two birdies with seven pars coming in to finish with a 67.

With the original field of 320 now cut down to 64, the U.S. Amateur champion will be decided over the next five days in match play format, with Wednesday's winners moving on to the Round of 32 on Thursday, and so on. Lowe's first opponent will be determined from a playoff on Wednesday morning.
