NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts senior Salma Anastasio has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Also honored was Duquesne junior Kyra Murphy, who earned Defensive Player of the Week. Rookie of the Week honors were shared by Richmond's Olivia Sjodin and Saint Louis' Megan Nixon. The awards were for games played Aug. 28 - Sept. 3.

Anastasio was a key figure in UMass’ come-from-behind, 2-1, overtime win against Maine. The senior from Trumbull, Conn., had the game-winning goal in overtime and also had an assist on the game-tying goal late in regulation play, helping the Minutewomen earn their first win of the season. Maine scored in the first minute of play and maintained the advantage for the bulk of the match. Anastasio set up Erin Doster’s game-tying goal for UMass in the 81st minute to force overtime. Just under two minutes into the extra time, the forward had a wonderful individual effort to collect a loose ball in front of the goal before getting a strike on it for the golden goal.

Murphy, a junior goalie from Canonsburg, Pa., notched her 13th career shutout against defending Missouri Valley Champion, Illinois State. She made 10 saves in Duquesne's 1-0 victory that saw Illinois State outshoot the Dukes 21-13.

Sjodin, a Gavle, Sweden, native allowed just two goals in a pair of 1-0 losses while stopping 19 shots in the process, including a 12-save performance against the Cavaliers. She faced 51 total shots in goal this week in 200 minutes of play, holding both the Terrapins and No. 3 Cavaliers to under two goals for just the second time this season.

Nixon scored her first collegiate goal, the gamewinner in a 3-0 win at SIUE last week. The Oakville, Ontario, product also added to the SLU offense with a goal in a 3-0 win at Missouri State. The Billikens remain undefeated and are off to their best start in program history with a 6-0 record.
