CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Saint Joseph’s field hockey team has broken into the national rankings this week, as the Hawks are ranked 23rd in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.

Saint Joseph’s (4-2) enters the poll for the first time this season and just the second time in program history after defeating #22 Rutgers, 3-1, at Ellen Ryan Field on Sunday.  It marked the first Hawk win over a ranked team since October of 2009.

Connecticut took over the top spot, while previous SJU opponents Maryland (ninth) and James Madison (13th) moved up in the rankings, while Rutgers (T-24th) slipped but remained in the poll.  The Hawks are slated to meet Delaware, which remained in sixth in the poll, on October 14.

The Hawks will carry their new ranking into the first weekend of conference play as they host Saint Louis and Lock Haven on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
