Men’s soccer conference play begins Saturday for Atlantic 10 teams, with five league matchups on the docket.

Davidson hosts Dayton at 6:00 pm in the earliest of the five matchups. At 7:00 pm, George Washington plays at Rhode Island, George Mason hosts Fordham and La Salle is at Duquesne. The final game of the night, which begins at 8:00 pm ET (7:00 pm local), will be Massachusetts at Saint Louis.

The preseason favorite and defensive leader, Fordham leads the pack at 6-2-1, while UMass, Davidson and Mason have each won five games in non-conference play. Fordham leads the league in defense, allowing just .56 goals per game. The Minutemen, who are third defensively surrendering .89 goals per game, are 5-2-2 while the Wildcats and Patriots are 5-2-1. Interestingly enough, those three team were all picked to finish in the bottom half of the league in the preseason poll.

Perennial power Saint Louis has played a tough non-conference slate and is 2-4-1, but was picked second in the preseason and expects to be a contender. VCU, third in the poll, had multiple games cancelled due to the Hurricanes the battered the U.S. coast and has played fewer non-conference games than other teams at 2-3-0.

George Mason is the offensive juggernaut of the A-10, averaging 2.38 goals per game, the only team in the league to average over two goals per game. La Salle is second at 1.89 goals per game.

Mason’s Henning Dirks leads the Atlantic 10 in points (19), goals (7) and assists (5), sparking the potent Patriot offense. Fordham’s Janos Loebe, Saint Joseph’s Matt Crawford and Dirks’ teammate Ryan Mingachos are tied for second in scoring with five goals apiece. Loebe has 14 points (with four assists) this season and Mingachos has 12 points (with five assists).

Conference play will conclude Nov. 1, with the Atlantic 10 Championship beginning the weekend of Nov. 4 on campus sites. The semifinals and final will be played Nov. 10-12 at Dayton’s Baujan Field.
