Gallop, Strange, Crosley Named A-10 Volleyball Weekly Award Winners

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Saint Louis sophomore Sien Gallop was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while VCU senior Rebekah Strange was named Defensive Player of the Week. Davidson freshman Ellie Crosley was named the league’s Rookie of the Week. All awards were for matches played Oct. 30-Nov. 5.


Gallop recorded her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season this week in wins over Fordham and Rhode Island posting 20-plus kills in each match. The outside hitter from San Diego, Calif., averaged 5.75 kills per set and had 55 points and seven service aces for the week while hitting .319. Her 25-kill performance against Rhode Island was a new career-high performance.

Strange averaged 5.43 digs per set as VCU extended its winning streak to 24 matches with wins over Duquesne and La Salle. In VCU’s straight-set victory over La Salle, the libero from Avon, Ind., recorded 17 digs. Against Duquesne, Strange recorded 21 digs to lead the Rams past the Dukes in four sets.

Crosley registered 16 blocks over the weekend, averaging 1.60 per set in two very competitive matches against Duquesne and La Salle. Over the weekend, the middle hitter from Austin, Texas recorded career-highs in both kills and blocks, with 13 and 9, respectively. For the week, Crosley hit .412 and recorded 25 kills.
