UMass, VCU, Fordham Earn NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament Bids
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The field and bracket for the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament was announced Monday. Massachusetts earned the A-10's automatic bid by winning the conference tournament Sunday. VCU and Fordham each received at-large bids to the tournament.
This is the first time since 2012 that the Atlantic 10 has had at least three teams in the NCAA Tournament. The A-10 placed four teams into the tournament that year.
The Minutemen will host Colgate on Thursday at 1 pm in the opening round of the tournament. UMass defeated Colgate earlier this season on Sept. 16 at home. The winner of Thursday's match will go on to face No. 13 Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 19 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Though VCU did not earn the automatic bid to the tournament, they earned the No. 16 national seed. This is VCU's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013. VCU will face the winner of the Butler and Lipscomb game on Nov. 19
Fordham hosts St. Francis Brooklyn of the Northeast Conference on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 pm. Prior to making the tournament Monday, Fordham had made the NCAA Tournament twice out of the last three years. The winner of this match will move on to face No. 5 Virginia in Charlottesville on Nov. 19.
