PITTSBURGH — Fifth-seeded Rhode Island defeated No. 4 Duquesne 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18) in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals Friday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
The Rams (12-15) advance to the semifinals, where they will face top-seeded VCU Saturday at 2:00 pm ET. Saturday’s semifinals will be streamed for free on the A-10 Network.
Rhode Island had four players record double-digit kills including a double-double performance from Kylee Wolfe (13 kills, 12 digs). The Rams were also led by Lauren Pick’s 48 assists along with 22 digs from Jessie Blaze.
After dropping the first set, 26-24, Rhody responded by taking the second set to even things up. In a back-and-forth third set, URI closed strong to win 25-23 before taking the fourth set.
Duquesne setter Dani Suiter recorded 45 assists and three Dukes, Abbie Trzeciak, Molly Davet and Maria Mosbacher, had double-digit kills on the evening. With the loss, Duquesne falls to 13-16 on the season.
