NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For the second consecutive week, Richmond's Kim Egizi has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, while teammate Megan Gianforte earned Defensive Player of the Week. Saint Joseph's Stephanie Kelly was also named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Tuesday, are for games played Feb. 12-18.
Egizi matched her career-high of eight points (set last week) in a 13-6 win over American on Saturday. The senior from Westwood, Mass., scored a career high-tying seven goals, going 2-for-2 from free position, and assisted on one other goal to lead the Spiders. Egizi also won seven draw controls to help the Spiders out draw American, 15-5, while collecting four ground balls and causing two turnovers.
Gianforte, a sophomore from Brielle, N.J., logged nine saves and allowed just two goals on 16 shots faced in a 13-6 win over American. Gianforte stopped all four free-position shots that she faced in 48:35 minutes played and led a Spider defense that shut out the Eagles in the opening half. Gianforte finished the day with a .818 save percentage, four ground balls and one caused turnover.
Kelly, a rookie attacker from Melbourne, Australia, netted her first collegiate hat trick and added two assists for five points in SJU's 21-8 win over CCSU on Saturday.
