Turner, Sciandra, Oler Earn A-10 Lacrosse Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts’ Holly Turner and Richmond’s Katie Sciandra were selected as the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Co-Players of the Week, while George Washington’s Jenna Oler was named the Defensive Player of the Week.  La Salle’s Bridget Ruskey was named the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Wednesday, are for games played Feb. 26-March 4.

Turner, a senior from Pittsford, N.Y., led No. 24 UMass to a pair of road victories this week with a 19-10 win at Marist and a thrilling 12-11 decision at Connecticut. She scored six goals, including the game-winner with seven seconds left in regulation at UConn, while adding an assist. She also had a ground ball and two caused turnovers. In the win at Marist, Turner had three goals, a groundball and two caused turnovers. At UConn, the senior had three goals and an assist.

Katie Sciandra, a junior from Vienna, Va., scored a career-high seven goals and assisted on one other for an eight-point performance in the Spiders' 12-8 win over Liberty on Saturday. She scored six of her goals on free position attempts, and has scored 10 goals on the year after totaling 11 all of last season. Sciandra took a career-high 14 shots in the contest, 12 of which were on goal.

Oler, a freshman goalkeeper from Columbia, Md., recorded 17 saves in only her third career start in the win over Robert Morris. She currently tops the A-10 in saves with 36, and save percentage at 59 percent in 190:29 minutes of played.

Ruskey, a freshman from Stone Harbor, N.J., scored three goals on four shots and recorded an assist in La Salle’s win over Marist. She also added seven draw controls and a caused turnover.
