The following is a excerpt from a Daily Press (Newport News, Va.) Sunday story by renowned reporter/columnist David Teel about A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGalde and her appointment to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee. A link to the full story on dailypress.com follows the excerpt.

Among the criticisms of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee has been that not enough members played and/or coached the college game.

Poised to begin a five-year term Sept. 1, Atlantic 10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade checks both boxes, and then some.

She played at North Carolina, where she’s still the career rebounding leader and her No. 14 hangs in the Carmichael Arena rafters. She coached at Georgia Tech.

Oh, and she chaired the Division I women’s basketball committee in 1999 and 2000.

“She is the best-qualified person to be on that committee,” said Missouri Valley Conference commissioner Doug Elgin, who served from 1999-2002.

McGlade is here in San Antonio, enjoying her last relaxed Final Four for a while. The committee she’s joining not only selects, seeds and brackets the 68-team tournament but also administers the event at 14 venues each season.
