Ross Finishes T-21st as Wildcats Conclude Historic Season at NCAA Regional

RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Alex Ross finished T-21st at 3-under 210 (67-74-69) to lead Davidson at the 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Raleigh Regional Wednesday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Ross, the 2018 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, fired a final round three-under 69, his second sub-par round of the event. In addition, it was the Atlanta native's lowest 54-hole total of the season.

Junior Mike Blasey also turned in a solid final round with an even-par 71. Sitting at four-over after four holes, the 2018 Atlantic 10 Individual Champion closed his front nine with four straight birdies before playing the back in even-par 36.

Making their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance as a team, the Wildcats (877 | +25) carded a final round 287, their second lowest team score of the 2017-18 season.

Davidson, which captured the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship, its first conference crown in 50 years, will return all five starters next season.

13th Davidson – 296-294-287 = 877 (+25)
T21st Alex Ross – 67-74-69 = 210 (-3)
T61st Mike Blasey – 73-76-71 = 220 (+7)
64th Jack Lang – 78-69-74 = 221 (+8)
T72nd Hoke Carlton – 82-75-73 = 230 (+17)
T74th Michael Freeman – 78-77-79 = 234 (+21)

Led by 2017 U.S. Amateur runner-up Doug Ghim, Texas (-39) claimed the Regional title by 17 strokes over No. 28 Duke (-22). Host No. 36 NC State (-21), Augusta (-20) and No. 21 Arizona State (-18) also move on to the NCAA Championship that runs May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Ghim (64-66-66 = 196 | -17) led wire-to-wire to capture individual medalist, while Pontus Nyholm of Campbell will also move on as the low individual not included on the five advancing teams.
