Haynes Brown, Miklos named Men's Soccer Players of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington sophomore Oscar Haynes Brown was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Fordham senior Dan Miklos was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Rhode Island freshman Roger Penske was selected as Rookie of the Week. All three awards are for games played from Aug. 24-26 and are the first honors of the 2018 regular season.
Oscar Haynes Brown, a forward/mid-fielder from West Sussex, England, netted a hat trick in last Friday's 3-2 win over Stony Brook to open the season. The Colonials trailed 1-0 before Haynes Brown put in three goals in just a 20-minute span. The sophomore found the net in the 57th, 72nd and 76th minutes to power the Colonials on their home field. It was the program's first hat trick since Seth Rudolph versus Saint Joseph's in November 2010.
Dan Miklos, a goalkeeper from Manheim, Pa., made his first start since 2015 on Friday and was a big part of #16 Fordham’s season-opening win against Holy Cross. Miklos made three saves against the Crusaders and punched away a potential scoring chance in the final seconds on a cross.
Roger Penske, a goalkeeper from Newport Coast, Calif., earned the start in goal for his first career appearance for Rhode Island. The freshman posted a shutout with a diving save in the last six minutes of the game and managed a defense that allowed just three shots on goal over 90 minutes of play.
