NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Mason's Nia Elbeck has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Duquesne goalkeeper, Kyra Murphy was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Elbeck's freshman teammate Emma van der Vorst earned Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards are for games played Aug. 27 - Sep. 2.

Elbeck, a senior from Hanover, Md., scored the game-winner in the 57th minute to lift the Patriots to a 2-1 victory over East Carolina last Sunday. It's the fourth straight season that Elbeck has recorded a game-winning goal. George Mason won the first two games of a three-game homestand, also defeating Old Dominion 2-1 scores.

Murphy broke a 20-year old program record with her 22nd career shutout with 1-0 clean sheet over Binghamton last week. The Canonsburg, Pa., native tallied four saves in the win.
van der Vorst scored a goal in each of the Patriots' games last week, her first two NCAA goals. The rookie from Amsterdam, Netherlands, scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty kick in the 48th minute against Old Dominion to tie the game 1-1. She then scored in the 20th minute against ECU to tie the game, 1-1.
