Boyce, Höfs claim A-10 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis teammates junior Devin Boyce and freshman John Klein were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while George Washington senior Thor Arne Höfs was named Defensive Player of the Week. All three awards are for games played from Sept. 10 - 16.
Boyce, a midfielder from St. Louis, registered six points on the week, with two goals and two assists, and played a part in four out of five of the Billikens’ goals. Boyce scored two goals, including the game-winner, on the road at nationally ranked Tulsa, and followed that up with an assist on the game-winning goal against Central Arkansas.
Höfs, a goalkeeper from Fehmarn, Germany, had six saves in George Washington’s 1-0 shutout against New Jersey Institute of Technology to match his season high. Höfs made three saves in each half to record his second clean sheet of the season and the 19th of his career, one shy of a program record. After GW took the lead in the 80th minute, he handled the only shot on target he faced by tipping NJIT freshman Victor Gomez’s long-range blast over the crossbar.
Klein, a midfielder from Columbia, Mo., scored his first two career goals last week in a pair of wins for the Billikens. Klein registered a key insurance goal in Saint Louis’ win at nationally ranked Tulsa and followed with the game-winning goal in the second half at home against Central Arkansas.
