Lang Named A-10 Golfer of the Week; Jung Selected as Rookie of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson senior Jack Lang was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week, while George Mason freshman Sam Jung was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Friday for events played Sept 20-26.
Lang posted a 54-hole total of 209 (7-under) to finish second out of 80 competitors at the River Run Collegiate. In addition to his second straight top three finish to open to 2018-19, Lang finished his three rounds with a career-best 17 birdies, including 15 combined on the opening day. Through two events/five rounds this season, Lang has a 69.20 stroke average and a pair of Top-3 finishes. In all, the 2017 Atlantic 10 Champion and Lexington, N.C., product has eight career top five showings.
Jung finished second to help the Patriots capture the team title at the Patriot Intercollegiate on Saturday at Laurel Hill Golf Club. Jung notched his second consecutive top ten finish as he finished 3-under 139 (69-70) as round three was cancelled due to inclement weather and unplayable conditions. The Centreville, Va., native finished just one stroke off the lead and rattled in seven birdies over 36 holes. His performance helped Mason win its home tournament for the first time since the Patriot Intercollegiate began in 2012. It also marked the Patriots' first team title since April 2017.
