Loebe, Iacobellis Named A-10 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham senior Janos Loebe was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while St. Bonaventure senior Luke Iacobellis was named Defensive Player of the Week. Saint Joseph’s Joseph Boehm and St. Bonaventure’s Isaac Boamah earned Co-Rookie of the Week accolades. All three awards are for games played from Sept. 24 - 30.
Loebe, a senior midfielder/forward from Kierspe, Germany, recorded one goal and three assists in Fordham’s first game of conference play against Rhode Island, taking part in all four of the team’s goals. It was a career high for Loebe in assists and points (5) who now leads the team in both categories.
Iacobellis, a goalkeeper from Toronto, Ontario, grabbed his fourth win of the season Saturday on the road at UMass. The senior made five first-half saves and added two more in the second half to help get the Bonnies a 2-1 victory, the team’s first Atlantic 10 opener win since 2013.
Boehm, a goalkeeper from Colleyville, Texas, made a career-high 13 saves for Saint Joseph's in a 2-2 draw with Duquesne in the Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday evening. The match marked the Hawks' first overtime performance of the season. Boehm (6-3-1, 0-0-1 A-10) made eight first-half saves, including four in the first 11:27 and two in the final 1:12, to keep the Dukes off the scoreboard through the first 30:00. After allowing two second-half goals, Boehm recovered to make the final three saves asked of him in the half (75', 81', and 87') and his 13th save in the 100th minute.
Boamah, a midfielder from Kumasi, Ghana, netted his first career goal and first career game-winning goal to help the Bonnies claim a 2-1 victory over UMass Saturday. Boamah found the back of the net after making a run down the left side where Shea Currey found his foot and Boamah was able to convert.
