SJU's Willocks, Botherway Claim Weekly Field Hockey Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s senior Anna Willocks was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week Monday, while her freshman teammate Tonya Botherway was named Rookie of the Week for games played from Oct. 1-7.
Willocks scored four goals, added two assists, and broke a record this weekend. The Palmerston North, New Zealand, forward hung a hat trick on Drexel on Friday night as the Hawks romped to an 8-0 win. She then scored the 68th goal of her career, a new Saint Joseph's record, as the Hawks crushed Temple, 6-0 on Sunday. Willocks added a pair of assists in the win over Temple as well. Willocks is now tied for fourth in the conference in goals scored while ranking fifth in total points, and she is now Saint Joseph's all-time leader in goals, assists, and points.
Botherway won her third straight weekly award, scoring three goals and adding an assist for a seven-point week as the Hawks beat a pair of local rivals. The Auckland, New Zealand, forward tallied two goals and assisted on another on Friday night as Saint Joseph's shut out Drexel, 8-0, on the road. Botherway scooped up a loose ball and rounded the keeper for the game's first goal as the Hawks blanked Temple, 6-0. Botherway remains second in the conference with 16 goals and 36 points on the season, leading all rookies in both categories.
