Maricocchi Named A-10 Golfer of the Week; Theam Selected for Rookie Award
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Dayton junior Domenic Maricocchi was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week, while La Salle freshman Dragon Theam was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Friday for events played Oct. 4-10.
With his fourth-place finish, Maricocchi helped Dayton capture the team title at Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Tuesday. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native carded a 212 and opened the tournament with a 75. He then rallied and equaled his season low with a round of 68 on Monday and followed that with a two-under-par round of 69 to close out the event Tuesday. For the tournament, Maricocchi carded 16 birdies over three rounds of play, including seven during the second 18.
Theam won the Bucknell Fall Invitational Tuesday, sitting atop of the 95-player field with a 133 (67-66). The Jacksonvile, Fla., native is the first Explorer to claim a tournament title since P.J. Acierno won the Cape Fear Intercollegiate in March 2016. Theam's two-day total of 133 (-7) is the lowest score ever by an Explorer in a 36-hole event.
