Soulia, Streid Named A-10 Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis junior Grant Streid and Richmond senior Morgan Soulia were named Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Saint Louis freshman Matt Terrian was named Men’s Rookie of the Week and Duquesne freshman Adrienne White and Richmond freshman Maggie Purcell shared Women’s Rookies of the Week accolades. All four awards are for meets from Oct. 15-21.

 

Streid took home two first-place finishes against Eastern Illinois in the 100-yard butterfly (50.07) and the 100-yard individual medley (52.88), and a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (51.71). In a five-way dual meet at McKendree, the Peoria, Ill., native placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.09 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.97. He also placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (46.79) and contributed to the 200-yard freestyle relay that placed third.

 

Soulia, a Wexford, Pa., native,  took home first in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:59.17) and had the fastest time in the 200-yard IM (2:07.87) on the first day of the Richmond Duals on Friday. She also contributed to the third-place 200 medley relay. On day two, Soulia had three first-place swims in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.53), the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.46), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.24) and swam as part of the 400-yard Medley and 200-yard freestyle relays that both placed first.

 

Terrian, also from Peoria, Ill.,  took home first place in the 50-yard butterfly (24.15) against Eastern Illinois as well as fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (21.97) and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.14). In Saint Louis’s meet at Mckendree, he placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (21.81) and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (53.50).

 

On day one of the Richmond Duals Purcell took first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.95) and was on the 200-yard medley relay team that took second (1:48.02). On day two of the Richmond Duals the Southampton, N.Y., native won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.05) with the third fastest time in the A-10 and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.10) with the fastest time in the A-10 this season. Purcell was also a member of the wining 400-yard medley relay team (3:51.62) and anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took first (1:36.79) Richmond won both dual meets to improve to 2-2 on the season.  

 

White, a native of Gibsonia, Pa., won both the 1-meter (253.10) and 3-meter dives (246.65) for Duquesne on Friday against George Mason, and both the 1-meter (257.55) and 3-meter dives (247.95) for the Dukes against the Spiders on Saturday.
