Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships to be Held Saturday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference will hold its first two championships of the season this weekend with the running of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va., on Saturday, October 27. This year’s races will be hosted by the University of Richmond.

The 2018 Championships mark the 41st annual men’s conference meet and the 30th annual women’s conference meet. The Women’s Cross Country Championship (5K) will begin at 10:00 AM and will be immediately followed by the Men’s Championship (5-Mile Race) beginning at 10:50 AM.

 

Vying for the women’s title is A-10 preseason favorite and defending champion, Dayton. The Flyers are currently ranked 14th in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings.

 

Also in hot pursuit of the women’s title is 2017 championship runner-up, Richmond. The Spiders are currently ranked 9th in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Rankings and are in search of their third A-10 title in the last four years.

 

Also contending for this year’s title is Davidson, Duquesne, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis and VCU.

 

On the men’s side, Dayton enters as the two-time defending A-10 champions and will look to win their third straight title in as many years. The Flyers return three top-15 performers from last year’s championship in seniors Chris Negri (third place) and Spencer Danielson (13th place) and junior JP Flavin (fifth place). Dayton is currently 9thin the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings.

 

Saint Joseph’s, the 2017 championship runner-up is looking to bring home its first A-10 title since 2015. The Hawks are currently ranked seventh in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings.

 

Joining those two squads in search of the men’s title are Davidson, Duquesne, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis and VCU.
