VCU Claims Regular Season Title and Top Seed for A-10 Volleyball Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — VCU clinched the Atlantic 10 Volleyball regular season title with a 13-1 conference record and will be the top seed for the 2018 A-10 Championship, which begins Friday at VCU’s Stuart C. Siegel Center.

All three rounds of the A-10 championship will be available on ESPN+. The winner of the single-elimination championship will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

VCU, the defending A-10 Champions, recorded its second consecutive A-10 regular season title and will receive a bye into the semifinals of the A-10 Championship. The Rams enter the championship with a record of 18-8 overall.

Dayton is seeded second and will also receive a bye into the semifinals. The Flyers finished second in the A-10 standings at 12-2, while posting a 21-7 mark overall. 

La Salle finished the conference slate 9-5, good for the third seed in the championship. The Explorers, making their first-ever appearance in the A-10 Championship, finished with a record 17-11 overall and will play Friday at 4:30 pm ET in the second semifinal against sixth-seeded Duquesne. The Dukes, 12-15 overall and 6-8 in the A-10, are the sixth-seed after losing a head-to-head tiebreak to Saint Louis.  

George Mason, 10-14 overall and 8-6 in league play, will serve as the four-seed and will play fifth-seed Saint Louis (6-8) in the first quarterfinal on Friday at 2:00 pm ET.

VCU will play the George Mason/Saint Louis winner at 2:00 pm on Saturday while Dayton faces the La Salle/Duquesne winner at 4:30 pm Saturday. The championship final will be played at Noon on Sunday.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and are available on-site at the championship. Students with a valid ID from Atlantic 10 member institutions are admitted free.
