George Washington Sweeps A-10 Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington sophomore Peter Nachtwey and junior teammate Gemma Atherley claimed Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week accolades, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. George Washington freshmen Dylan Arzoni and Andrea Moussier were awarded Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week. All four awards are for meets from Nov. 5 – 11.

 

In the Colonials’ win over Howard on Sunday, Nachtwey, a Chagrin Falls, Ohio, native, broke his own pool record in the three-meter diving event and qualified for the 2019 NCAA Zone Meet with a score of 387.23. He also claimed the top spot in the one-meter dive with a score of 298.35.

 

Gemma Atherley took home two individual wins on Sunday in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.71) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.70). The Jersey, Channel Islands, product also participated in the 400-yard freestyle relay on GW’s top relay team.

 

Arzoni also took home a pair of wins on Sunday, taking first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.89 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.89. The Manchester, England native also swam the butterfly leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay.

 

Moussier, a Queretero, Mexico, native, won the 1000-yard freestyle with the top time in the A-10 this season at 10:20.64, and took home second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.88.
