Chao and Halliburton Named A-10 Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis sophomore TJ Halliburton and Richmond junior Maddy Chao were named Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, the League announced Tuesday. Saint Louis freshman Janssen Gamilla was named Men’s Rookie of the Week and George Washington’s Isabel Patino was named Women’s Rookie of the Week. All four awards are for meets from Nov. 26 – Dec. 2.
Halliburton placed 24th at the USA Winter National Championships in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 57.68, which is only one second away from the Olympic trials cut off time. The St. Louis, Missouri,
Chao finished first in the 1-meter diving event at George Washington with a career-high 279.45 score which qualified her for NCAA Zones. The Niskayuna, N.Y., native defeated the next closest opponent by 36 points. Chao set another career-high with a 264.75 score in the 3-meter event.
Gamilla led the Billikens to a first-place finish in the 300-yard butterfly and 400-yard medley relays, and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the Indiana State Relay Meet this weekend.
Patino picked up a pair of individual wins in an A-10 dual meet against Richmond on Friday with career-best times in both events. The freshman from Ladera Ranch, Calif., won the 100-yard butterfly (56.82) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.01) and swam the butterfly leg on the 200-yard medley relay that came in second.
