A-10 Student-Athletes Named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Dayton’s Lauren Bruns and Brooke Westbeld along with VCU’s Jasmin Sneed have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention team as announced by the AVCA on Dec. 12.

 

Bruns, a senior from Versailles, Ohio, was named the AVCA Midwest Region Player of the Year earlier this month and recently named to the Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team. She finished her final season as a Flyer leading the Atlantic 10 with 4.25 kills/set (26th NCAA). The 2018 A-10 Player of the Year was also recognized on the 2018 A-10 All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team and she was named the A-10 Championship's Most Outstanding Player.

Westbeld, a sophomore from Kettering, Ohio, recorded a program-record five triple-doubles during the 2018 season which ranked second in all of NCAA DI. She tallied a total of 14 double-doubles and posted a career-high 12 kills four times in 2018. Westbeld was named to the 2018 A-10 All-Conference Second Team and to the A-10 Championship All-Tournament Team.

 

Sneed, who received AVCA All-East Region honors last week, is just the second Ram to receive an AVCA All-America honor and the first since Romana Kriskova also earned an honorable mention citation in 2013.She set school records for hitting percentage (.382) and blocks per set (1.70), and her 179 total blocks rank second in school history to the 180 she recorded in 2017. She led the A-10 in blocks per set and currently ranks fourth nationally in that category.
