Cavanaugh, George Share A-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fordham’s Bre Cavanaugh and Massachusetts’ Jessica George were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week while Saint Louis’ Brooke Flowers earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were for games played Dec. 24-30.
Cavanaugh was named the Fordham Holiday Classic MVP after averaging 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in wins over Maine and Middle Tennessee. The sophomore from Allamuchy, N.J., matched a season-high with 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting, a season-high 5-of-13 from behind the arc, with eight boards and three assists in an overtime win over Maine.
George spearheaded a Massachusetts' victory over Marist with 22 points on 7-of-14 (.500) shooting including a 6-of-8 showing from 3-point range. The senior from Waldorf, Md., also added three rebounds, one assist and one steal and did not turn the ball over at all during her 38 minutes of action.
Flowers, a freshman from St. Louis, recorded the first two double-doubles of the career in a 1-1 week for the Billikens. Against Yale, she had 16 points and 12 rebounds followed by 22 points and 12 rebounds against FAU. For the week, she averaged 19.0 points on 18-of-35 (.514) shooting with 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
Fordham freshman Kaitlyn Downey averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in wins over Maine and Middle Tennessee…George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary scored 15 points and nabbed four steals in a 70-49 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday... Saint Joseph’s freshman Katie Mayock posted her first career double-double at Delaware scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds to go with three blocked shots. She is the first SJU rookie to record a double-double since the 2007-08 season.
